Dozens of parents and children are calling on Merton Council to reconsider and keep Lavender Nursery open. Some parents and children put up ‘Save Our Nursery’ signs outside the nursery. And due to the lockdown, instead of gathering in protest at the site in London Road, others took pictures of themselves with their homemade signs. The council says there has been an increase in secondary school children with mental health problems. Some of the most vulnerable are educated at Melbury College which is based in a temporary home in Morden. The council is looking to move the specialist educator to the site of Lavender Nursery in London Road.
Merton Council to mark the memory of Captain Tom Merton Council will mark the memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore by flying their flag at half-mast today. Captain Sir Tom Moore, the Second World War veteran whose charity walks inspired the nation at the start of the coronavirus pandemic tragically died after testing positive for Covid-19, aged 100. The 100-year-old charity fundraiser was taken to hospital on Sunday, after being treated for pneumonia for some time and testing positive for the virus the week before last. Leader of Merton Council Mark Allison has since published a message of condolence after being inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore s £33 million fundraiser for the NHS.
A NEW test centre is set to open in Merton this week in a bid to prevent the spread of the South African variant. The news comes after authorities confirmed that someone in the Pollards Hill area had tested postive with the variant in January. The new mobile testing unit will open in the car park at Pollards Hill Library, South Lodge Avenue from Wednesday, February 3. Merton Council has today reported that the infected person has recovered with all contact tracing completed at the time. The council said there is no immediate cause for concern but are urging people to still get tested in the Pollards Hill area.
