April 26, 2021 04:07AM By Michael Gagne, Record-Journal staff MERIDEN — Attorneys representing Meriden and a resident who filed a federal lawsuit against the city, its former police chief and a former police detective alleging First Amendment retaliation, have agreed to settle the matter, according to recent legal filings. Meriden resident Christopher Dingwell Sr. originally filed the complaint in 2017. It listed as co-defendants former Meriden Police Chief Jeffry Cossette, former union president and police Detective John Williams and the city of Meriden.

Meriden police s human trafficking operation nets one arrest Saul Flores FacebookTwitterEmail MERIDEN A human trafficking operation conducted by the Meriden Police Department led to five adult females and two adult males being contacted on April 23. All five females were offered sexual assault crisis services, victim services, counseling/therapy and drug rehabilitation. The information gathered during the operation continues to be under investigation, officials said. Police officials said that one of the adult females, identified as Cassidy Niland, was arrested and taken into custody on two outstanding arrest warrants. The first warrant was for attempted first-degree assault, criminal mischief in the first degree, reckless endangerment, carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace in the second degree. The second warrant was for the charge of second-degree threatening. The bond was set for a total of $105,000.

Suspected Wolcott convenience store robber charged

Contributed/Wolcott Police Department WOLCOTT Police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of robbing the Cumberland Farms convenience store at 723 Wolcott Road last month. Police believe Adrian Alaya-Garo of Meriden entered the store at about 8 p.m. on March 7, put money on the counter and requested gas. When the cashier opened the cash drawer, police say Alaya-Garo jumped over the counter, pushed the clerk out of the way and grabbed the insert of the cash drawer. Alaya-Garot fled in a vehicle, police said. Officer Paul Scarcella transmitted a description of the vehicle to other officers, including Meriden Police Department, where police traced its registration.

Colorado lawmakers send two bills tightening gun regulations to Gov Polis, who will sign them into law

Dave Zajac, Record-Journal State lawmakers have sent two bills that would tighten gun regulations in Colorado to Gov. Jared Polis, who plans to sign them into law. Senate Bill 78 would require Coloradans to report a lost or stolen firearm within five days of realizing that it’s missing. Failing to do so would be a Class 2 petty offense, punishable by a $25 fine. A subsequent offense would be a Class 3 misdemeanor which result in a jail sentence, though rarely does.
