9 Hard To Pronounce Maine Place Names
If you spend a lot of time talking to people who have never lived in Maine, you have probably realized there are a bunch of words they just can t seem to pronounce correctly. Or, at least, they can t seem to pronounce them the way WE would.
It seems like the most-difficult words for out-of-staters to pronounce are the ones based on Native American words and the words that feature our unique twist on French.
Here are some of the words you brought to our attention and the correct way to say them:

The saying ‘better late than never’ was in effect when you look at how the cheering season schedule unfolded this season.
In a different style than years’ past, the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference and Western Maine Conference cheering results were announced virtually on Saturday, a mere six or so weeks later than traditional years, when conference championships are usually held in late January.
MIDCOAST A total of 163 businesses in Knox and Waldo counties received aid money from the Maine Tourism, Hospitality and Retail Recovery Grant program.
Funding for the program originated from the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund with funding being provided to the first 2,500 approved applications from eligible tourism, hospitality and retail businesses in the industries of accommodation and food services; breweries; wineries; distilleries; retail trade; arts; entertainment; and recreation.
Applicants must have gross sales between $24,000 and $12 million annually and suffered a 20% or greater loss in gross sales as reported to the Maine Revenue Services on sales tax returns comparing either March 2019 through September 2019 to March 2020 through September 2020, for monthly filers, or April 2019 through September 2019 to April 2020 through September 2020, for quarterly filers.
