Mon, 02/15/2021 - 9:00am Paul G. Johnson, 60, died unexpectedly on Feb. 8, 2021 at his home in Waldoboro. He was born Sept. 8, 1960 in Rockland to Jesse Johnson and Winona Miller Johnson. Paul grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in the class of 1978. After high school he worked for the Poiriers of Massachusetts in the salt factory at Upton Fuel Company for a short time. Soon after, Paul returned to work on the water as a fisherman back home. He dug clams, built traps and lobstered with his father and brothers, even hauled his own gear by hand out of a wooden flat bottom skiff built by his father Jesse and Fernald Carter. Paul was an elver fisherman, went pogie seining, was an urchin tender for many cold winters, and had his own lobster boat for awhile …

Catherine R Harriman, obituary

Catherine Rene Harriman. WALDOBORO Catherine Rene Harriman, 48, of Waldoboro, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 25, 2021. Catherine was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 17, 1972 to parents Henry R. Gagne and Donna (Purdy) Gagne. She grew up in Maine and graduated from Medomak Valley High School. Catherine worked at Maritime Farms and met Dan Harriman, who was a frequent customer at the store. The rest is history, so they say. They married and she became a homemaker raising their two children. Every memory of Momma Pepperoni (aka Cathy) is of her heart of gold and her generous and giving spirit. She loved celebrating her birthday (St. Patrick’s Day) with her fun and unique green costumes and going out to eat Chinese food with her family.

Two Midcoast grads awarded dentistry scholarships

Appleby Scholarship from the Maine Dental Association Charitable Foundation. Natasha Seavey, a graduate of Rockland District High School, attends University of New England. She is the daughter of Kevin and Eleanor Reed of Rockland. Emily Leach, a graduate of Medomak Valley High School, attends the University of New England College of Dental Medicine. She is the daughter of John and Patricia Leach of Warren Each of 21 students was awarded $2,500. To be considered for the annual Appleby Scholarship, a student must be a resident of the state of Maine, have completed their first year of dental school, and be currently enrolled in a dental school accredited by the American Dental Association.

Members of the public are encouraged to nominate educators who demonstrate a commitment to excellence and who inspire the achievement of all students. “We know that Maine teachers are doing amazing work educating our students, especially through the impossible challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Commissioner Pender Makin. “By putting a name forward as a nomination in the Teacher of the Year Program you will not only give them the recognition they deserve, but you will also give them the chance to take a more active leadership role in education in our State.”
