City and Borough of Juneau facilities to reopen

Mendenhall Valley Library and Douglas Library reopened to in-person service today at noon. The Permit Center is opening to in-person service Wednesday. The City Museum will be open to in-person service Thursday. The Downtown Library will remain curbside until January 19th due to ongoing interior construction work. Share

Capital Transit announces holiday hours

Full service will resume on Saturday, December 26. The last Capital Transit bus into town on Christmas Eve will be from the Mendenhall Valley at 7:22 p.m. and from Douglas at 7:28 p.m. The last Capital Transit bus from town will be to the Mendenhall Valley at 7:35 p.m. and to Douglas at 8:05 p.m. CAPITAL Akcess service will end at 9 p.m. For more information on the schedule contact Capital Transit at 789-6901.  

Sealaska Board Commits $50,000 to New Glory Hall Location in Juneau

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - As walls rapidly go up on the new Mendenhall Valley location of the Glory Hall, Sealaska’s board of directors sent a strong message of support for the initiative by committing $50,000 to the project at its December meeting. The Glory Hall is Juneau’s emergency shelter and soup kitchen, providing three meals a day and shelter for those experiencing homelessness or crisis since 1981. The Glory Hall also provides transportation, social-service referrals, mental-health counseling, laundry, showers and more. The original Glory Hall location is in downtown Juneau, on Franklin Street. The expansion was planned before the pandemic, but the pressures of serving Juneau residents experiencing homelessness in the midst of the pandemic have increased the project’s urgency and left project leaders determined to work through the winter to open the new location during the summer of 2021. Pandemic and funding issues before Assembly

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Measures related to the pandemic and other matters involving city and borough finances are before the Juneau Assembly during Monday evening s regular meeting. An emergency resolution up for action appropriates $3 Million from the general fund for COVID-19 pandemic emergency response management. Nearly $86,000 in Cares Act funding is included in another emergency appropriation resolution for a grant to Perseverance Theatre to help it offset the economic hardship it has experienced as the result of the pandemic. There s an emergency ordinance up for action that extends the use of face covering in certain indoor settings, on Capital Transit buses, and in certain areas of CBJ facilities open to the public.
