MacArthur Award ranks Norwich as top ROTC program among Senior and Junior Military Colleges for 2019-20
Col. Joel Newsom told nearly 100 U.S. Army commissionees from Norwich University, some on Sabine Field and Haynes Family Stadium, some watching online, to celebrate their accomplishments, strive for more and lead empathetically.
During Saturday’s Norwich University 2021 U.S. Army ROTC ceremony, which occupied Sabine Field’s football gridiron after the Joint Commissioning ceremony finished, Newsom said the 98 Class of 2021 graduates in the ROTC detachment he leads had excelled in academics, leadership, physical fitness and community service.
Six Army ROTC cadets, he said, had ranked among the top 10 of all cadets within Cadet Command, 23 were named Distinguished Military Graduates and 90% earned their first rank choices, topping the Armywide average of 68%, and 96% got one of their top three branch choices. The big news out of Lobo men’s basketball on Wednesday was the program, for now, has a roster for the 2021-22 season that no longer exceeds the NCAA’s maximum scholarship limit of 13.
New head coach Richard Pitino confirmed that sophomore Kurt Wegscheider, a 6-foot-5 sophomore guard from Central African Republic who played in 36 games the past two seasons for the Lobos, and 7-1 Assane Ndiaye, a center who was with the team this past season but was never cleared to play in a game, have entered the NCAA transfer portal and will leave the program.
With only one season of Division I football under his belt, Donkor faces an uphill battle trying to make Seattle s 53-man roster from the outset. But his rare athletic traits could give him a shot at playing earlier than expected if he takes to coaching.

Lokombo (5’11-190lbs) comes off a sensational 2019 season, winning the Presidents’ Trophy as the country’s best stand-up defensive player. During that season he made 39 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, five interceptions, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He was also named Canada West’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, a Canada West All-Star and a U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian. In 30 career games with the Huskies, Lokombo has 115 tackles,10 interceptions, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. In 2017, the Abbotsford native was named the Huskies’ Rookie of the Year and helped the team win Hardy Cup, bringing it back to the University of Saskatchewan for the first time in 10 years.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A few months before Albuquerque High School’s Class of 1975 graduated and said goodbye to the halcyon days of youth and each other, we crowded together on the gym bleachers for the traditional group photo.
Holding court at the top of the bleachers were the cocky jocks, studs and stars of school.
Adan Carriaga was not among them.

He could have been. At Bulldog City, he was the golden boy with glints of gold in his hair. He was the heartthrob, a popular party boy who ascended the social hierarchy summit as a 6-foot-3 basketball standout at a school where basketball is a religion.
