Las Cruces passes two renewable energy transition commitments

LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces City Council passed two resolutions during its Monday meeting to advance its goal of increasing renewable energy use citywide and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. City councilors voted unanimously to approve a resolution which calls on the city government and its departments to switch entirely to electric vehicles. The city will aim for 50 percent electric vehicle use by the municipality by 2030.  The resolution also calls on other city departments to develop cleaner transportation infrastructure such as bike sharing and electric buses. The city says transportation contributes 53 percent of all the greenhouse gas emissions in Las Cruces. City vehicles make up 2 percent alone, and city purchases of asphalt and cement almost contribute the same amount of emissions as city-owned vehicles.
