The fate of this year’s Mackinac Bridge Walk relies on an online meeting next week.
Hosted by the Mackinac Bridge Authority, the meeting is open to the public and scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams and will be livestreamed. Comments can be submitted online prior to or during the event, as the local residents will help decide if the bridge wall take place this Labor Day.

Parts of the bridge’s steel grating are being placed on the auction block.
Barrels that weight about 470lbs and contain 140 pieces of grating are on sale until May 18th.
Dozens of bids have already been placed with prices as high as $500 a barrel.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority says the bridge is the third-longest suspension bridge in North America.

The 60-year-old steel is in 55-gallon barrels that weigh about 147 pounds and contain about 140 pieces.
There are five barrels full of Mighty Mac steel available from the Mackinac Bridge Authority right now, with multiple bids placed on all of them. One of the barrels is already up to $725.

ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) History lovers have a chance to own pieces of the original Mackinac Bridge with parts of the bridge’s steel grating placed on auction.
Barrels that weigh about 470 pounds and contain around 140 pieces of grating are on sale until May 18 when the auction closes. The pieces range in size.
Dozens of bids have already been placed with prices reaching over $500 a barrel.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority says the Mighty Mac is the third-longest suspension bridge in North America.
The bridge connects Michigan’s two peninsulas over the Straits of Mackinac.
