CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - As more people are getting vaccinated, the call to vaccinate kids is growing especially as more and more return to face-to-face learning.
According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nationâs infectious disease expert, children as young as first graders may be able to get the coronavirus vaccine by the time school starts in September, presuming trials are successful in those age groups.
The City of Charleston says they are looking to partner with the Medical University of South Carolina to set up a semi-permanent COVID-19 vaccination site.
MUSC officials say a special syringe has enabled them to get an additional one or two doses of the COVID vaccine from each vial. But there’s a problem.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Though the actual COVID-19 vaccines are free, some providers are charging an âadministration feeâ that may get passed along to the patient.
Some people who received a vaccine at MUSC reported a $51 administration fee. The money helps to cover costs associated with obtaining, storing, scheduling and providing trained staff and supplies for vaccine administration, according to MUSC Spokesperson Heather Woolwine.
âAt MUSC, our focus is to get shots in arms as quickly as possible and this requires resources, time and skill,â she said.
