MUSKEGON, Mich The summer of 2021 was going to be a record year for Muskegon s port, with nearly 50 stops from cruise ships touring the Great Lakes.
That was pre-COVID-19, when the number of passengers cruising on the Great Lakes from Toronto to Chicago was showing steady year-over-year growth.
In 2020 all of the planned stops to Muskegon County s cruise ship dock at Heritage Landing in downtown Muskegon were canceled. This summer, economic and tourism leaders are hoping for 20 visits now that the cruise ship operators have released their 2021 itineraries.

2021 was supposed to be a record setting season for Great Lakes Cruise Ships. Muskegon s port was expected to receive 50 ships. Passengers cruising on the Great Lakes from Toronto to Chicago was showing steady year-over-year growth. And then COVID-19 happened.
This summer, economic and tourism leaders are hoping for 20 visits now that the cruise ship operators have released their 2021 itineraries.
Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce President Cindy Larsen told WZZM, We understand anything can happen. The plan right now is for the ships to start later in the season because by then most people will be vaccinated.
Change-Ups: Mendez joins GR Chamber as talent development manager
Monica Mendez is the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce’s new talent development manager. She is responsible for overseeing Leading Edge, Leadership Advantage, and expanding upon ATHENA Grand Rapids programming, as well as providing support to chamber members. An immigrant from Mexico, Mendez came to the United States 20 years ago. She spent the first 15 years of her career as a business professional in a variety of different sales roles, but the magna cum laude graduate from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in International Business said she always felt drawn to other causes related to creating positive change within the community.

MUSKEGON, MI – The Muskegon Lakeshore Home, Garden and Boat show is returning this year to a new venue.
The home, garden and boat show will be the first public event held at downtown Muskegon’s VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center, 470 W. Western Ave., a news release said.

MUSKEGON, Mich. â The Muskegon Lakeshore Home, Garden and Boat Show will be held at the new VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center this year.
The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce says the new location will befit the expanding event, which will add more dealers and exhibitors than before.
âWe are excited to be growing the Home, Garden and Boat Show to showcase even more great local businesses on the Muskegon Lakeshore,â says Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce President Cindy Larsen. âThis will be the first public event held in our new convention center and we are happy to help bring attention to this great new asset in our community.â
