A woman died after being found floating in a backyard pool, according to Capt. Todd Keller, a spokesperson for the Phoenix Fire Department.
On Wednesday, firefighters responded to the area of 40th Street and Greenway Road after a maintenance worker reported he walked into a backyard and found a woman unconscious in a pool, Keller said.
The first responders pulled the woman from the pool, but were unable to resuscitate her, Keller said.
The Phoenix Police Department has taken over the scene, according to Keller.
Phoenix police have not released additional information about the victim as of Wednesday afternoon.

ARIZONA, USA A series of drownings in the last couple of weeks is raising concerns for drowning prevention advocates that this summer could be a deadly one.
As people celebrated the Fourth of July weekend, fire officials stayed busy responding to at least three drowning calls in the Valley.
On Saturday, Scottsdale firefighters responded to McDowell Road and 78th street, where a two-year-old girl nearly drowned. Crews were able to get her pulse back as she was being taken to a hospital.

CHANDLER, Ariz. Bellerae Smith, a 2-year-old girl, died Tuesday night after wandering from home and being discovered unconscious in a Chandler lake, according to police.
Police responded to a neighborhood near Alma School and Chandler Heights roads around 5:31 p.m. after a family member called police and reported Smith missing from her family s apartment for 30 minutes, according to police.
Investigators said officers searched the area for the girl, and she was later found unconscious in a nearby community lake on the west side.

PHOENIX A child was rushed to a hospital Monday afternoon after nearly drowning in a pool in Phoenix.
Firefighters said a 4-year-old boy was pulled out of a pool near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road. Authorities said the boy was underwater for at least two minutes before being rescued.
Family members were able to perform CPR before first responders arrived.
The child was able to breathe on his own before arriving at the hospital, but firefighters said he remains in extremely critical condition.
In 2019, the Children s Safety Zone reported 36 total drowning deaths in Maricopa and Pinal Counties. Five of those deaths were in children ages 0 to 5. In 2020, they reported an increase with 47 total deaths. 14 of those deaths were in children ages 0 to 5.
