CO Reports: Fair to slow fish bite - Buy a license, read the regs , have some fun

Area MnDNR Conservation Officer Weekly Reports - Jan. 22, 2020 Written By: Prepared by Joe Albert, Communications coordinator | Division of Enforcement | 3:00 am, Jan. 22, 2021 × District 9 - Brainerd area CO Eric Sullivan (Brainerd) was accompanied by COC (Conservation Officer Candidate) Nicholas Baum and worked ice angling and recreational vehicle activity. Sullivan and Baum observed several violations, including failure to register an ATV/snowmobile, failure to display registration and numbers, no ATV safety certificate, operating an ATV without headlights, no tow bar when towing passengers, angling without a license, no license in possession, extra lines, illegal-length fish, and underage consumption of alcohol. Sullivan and Baum assisted with a snowmobile accident and want to remind riders of the variable trail conditions and the need to ride with caution.

Area MnDNR Conservation Officer Weekly Reports - Jan. 12, 2020 Written By: PineandLakes Echo Journal | 9:00 am, Jan. 12, 2021 × District 4 - Walker area CO (Conservation Officer) Jordan Anderson (Wadena) primarily spent time on fishing and trapping activity. Lakes continue to be busy with a mixed bag of success. With all the activity, a lot of garbage has been seen left on area lakes. Clean up after yourselves! CO Randy Posner (Staples) worked on fishing enforcement this past week. The sunfish, crappies and bass have been the most productive for anglers on area lakes. He worked on snowmobiling enforcement issues this past week as well. Violations observed were no fishing license and expired registration on snowmobiles. Complaints of deer-carcass dumping on state land and litter on area lakes were received. He spent time inspecting aerators on area lakes.

Outdoornews January 7, 2021 District 1 – Baudette area CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked coyote hunters and anglers around Roseau County. Anglers were checked on Lake of the Woods. Violations encountered included angling without a license and angling with extra lines. CO Aaron Larson (Baudette) worked angling, ATVing, snowmobiling, and trapping enforcement. Larson attended fisher/marten registration in Baudette and spent time checking anglers on Lake of the Woods and Upper Red Lake.  CO Corey Sura (Baudette) reports participating in snowmobile safety and operations training, checking furs and trappers at the recent furbearer registration, patrolling the area for trapping activity, and checking anglers on the Rainy River and Upper Red Lake. CO Sura wants to remind folks to make sure they have current registration on their ATVs and snowmobiles before hitting the lakes and trails, and that all non-portable fish houses and shelters require licenses.

Area MnDNR Conservation Officer Weekly Reports - Dec. 22, 2020 Written By: Prepared by Joe Albert, Communications coordinator | Division of Enforcement | 7:00 am, Dec. 22, 2020 × District 2 - Bemidji area CO (Conservation Officer) Tom Hutchins (Crookston) reports checking anglers throughout the past week. Time was also spent inspecting aeration systems. Small-game hunters, archery deer hunters, and ATV operators were also checked. Various angling and ATV violations were encountered. CO Tim Gray (Bagley) checked ice anglers. CO Brice Vollbrecht (Bemidji #1) monitored ATV activity and ice anglers on area lakes. Vollbrecht also monitored trapping activity in the area. Upper Red lake was also worked several times. Fishing success has slowed on Upper Red Lake. Enforcement action was taken for unregistered ATVs, extra fishing lines, unattended lines, and being in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
