Townsville's reputation as the premier tropical destination in Northern Australia has been further bolstered taking out the two top gongs in Surf Life.
Premium Content A Hervey Bay beach has been named among Queensland s top 10 beaches for 2021. Released to coincide with the end of summer, the annual list of Queensland s top 10 patrolled beaches ranks popular locations based on safety, facilities and nearby services. The Strand Net 1 in Townsville claimed the overall honour with Alma Bay on Magnetic Island second and Cylinder Beach on North Stradbroke Island was third. Hervey Bay s Torquay Beach came in at number six on the list. SLSQ Lifesaving Services Manager Peta Lawlor said a range of factors had been considered when compiling the list and selecting an overall winner.
Lachlan said the postponement made him more excited to hit the water. We were really pumped to race this week, to just get our energy out, he said. Carnival referee Karen Kinnear said two carnivals, one being nippers from the under 8 to 10 age groups and the other under 11 to 12 age groups were held. She said more than 500 nippers were racing. It s fabulous, the weather gods have been very kind to us today, it s not too hot and the sea is beautiful for the kids they re all having a great time, she said.

It takes several laps of Noosaâs main drag, Hastings Street, to find a carpark and nearly every table is occupied at the string of sidewalk cafes by 9am.
It is a weekday and a vastly different scene than in the far north Queensland city of Cairns where near-empty tour boats are floating around the Great Barrier Reef.

The stretch of beach parallel to The Esplanade was once the location of a popular caravan park but was changed to a carpark in 2017. It was always so vibrant with the caravan park down here but now I think this is just going to be a useless space, Ms Nixon said.
