Nick Lees: Edmonton philanthropist s globe-trotting plans grounded by pandemic

Author of the article: Nick Lees  •  Edmonton Journal Publishing date: Mar 14, 2021  •  March 14, 2021  •  3 minute read  •  Multiple-business owner and philanthropist Donald Oborowsky had planned many overseas trips with wife Judy last year to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 6. Cancelled plans included taking the whole family to Africa for month and taking his son and grandson fishing in Brazil. The pandemic ended the travels, says Oborowsky. The good thing is all family members are healthy and all of the places we didn’t go to are still there waiting for us to reschedule as soon as the pandemic is behind us. More importantly, the fish would now be bigger and better to catch. Photo by Supplied

Bringing the lights to them : Cranes outside seniors home lit up for the holidays

EDMONTON Two construction cranes outside an Edmonton seniors facility are providing some holiday cheer for residents. The 85-metre booms at Kingsway Avenue and 111 Street have been decorated with coloured lights to help brighten the holidays for the residents of CapitalCare Norwood. COVID-19 restrictions mean few visitors and no outings for the seniors this year.    People know what it’s like to go out and see the Christmas lights in the community and drive and go to Candy Cane Lane or wherever, there’s some beautiful lights and these guys don’t get to do that year so we’re bringing the lights to them, Sherry Schaefer with the Capital Care Foundation said.
