Ōpiki farmer Clive Akers says Horowhenua District Council and Palmerston North City Council hijacked the boundary change process. “We are left with a rating authority we wish to depart from and an authority which doesn’t want us.” Akers was one of five residents who in 2018 initiated and developed the application with more than 300 signatures to the Local Government Commission. If the boundary is shifted, Horowhenua would lose about 14 per cent of its land area and 4 per cent of its population. Akers said the group was told deliberations would focus on the residents with consultation with affected councils and iwi.
Another shipping stock bites the dust as big tanker fleets merge
The same cast of characters has been in tanker circles for years. If their company goes bust, they pop up somewhere else. Sometimes they fight with each other. Sometimes they cooperate. Occasionally, they sell their entire fleets to one another (and re-emerge after their non-competes expire).
One such rare fleet deal was announced Wednesday morning: New York-based International Seaways (NYSE: INSW) will merge with Connecticut-based Diamond S Shipping (NYSE: DSSI) in an all-stock transaction, with International Seaways the surviving entity. INSW’s shares closed up 5.6% on the news, Diamond S shares 4.5%.
