Moore Police Department Using Virtual Reality Simulator For De-escalation Training

By: Jennifer Pierce MOORE, Oklahoma - The Moore Police Department has taken de-escalation training to a new level. Instead of only learning communication skills on the streets, officers can practice in virtual reality. The department was one of the first agencies in the state to use virtual reality equipment to simulate real-life situations. Moore police officers now suit up in another way for training. “This training simulator offers officers the ability to see things in a 360-degree environment,” said Lt. Kyle Hill, Moore Police Department.  Previous training simulators were on a two-dimensional screen and had only a few pre-determined outcomes. The training is now an immersive experience.

Remembering The Moore High School Tragedy On 1 Year Anniversary

By: Katelyn Ogle Moore - Wednesday marks one year since the Moore High School community was shaken after three students were hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver during cross country practice. Seven Moore cross country students were running on the sidewalk near the high school. That’s when police say the suspect, Max Townsend, was driving 80 miles-per-hour, drove up on the sidewalk, and plowed through the runners. Officers say he eventually stopped a couple of blocks away. Investigators say Townsend was driving drunk. They say he was upset over his own son’s death from a hit-and-run crash.
