Army officials are investigating a Fort Bragg officer s involvement at a rally that turned into a deadly riot in Washington D.C. last week.
Capt. Emily Rainey told the Associated Press she went to Washington D.C. on Wednesday as a private citizen while on leave, didn’t advertise that she was an Army officer and told her bosses ahead of time that she’d be going.
Rainey is a psychological operations officer assigned to the 4th Psychological Operations Group, said Maj. Dan. Lessard, a spokesman for the 1st Special Forces Command that the group falls under.
Lessard said commanders are aware of Rainey s presence at the Capitol last week.

“I can confirm our command is investigating the involvement of Capt. Emily Rainey at the Capitol on Jan. 6,” Maj. Dan Lessard, a spokesman for 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), said in a statement to Military.com.

A U.S. Army Captain who lives in Moore County is at the center of an Army investigation into her participation in events surrounding last weekâs protests and violent riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Emily Grace Rainey, who is known locally for protesting coronavirus restrictions and for her involvement with an anti-mask organization, helped lead a group of about 100 people from Moore County to Washington, D.C, on Jan. 6.
â I was a private citizen and doing everything right and within my rights,â she said in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday. The Pilot was unable to reach Rainey for additional comment.
