KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar today, despite the alarming surge in the local Covid-19 daily tally.
Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 cases surpassed the one million mark at 1,013,438 cases after 17,045 new cases were reported on Sunday the highest recorded in a day since the pandemic hit the country in March last year.

Kuala Lumpur: All the 220 Members of Parliament (MPs) are allowed to attend the special meeting of the Third Session of the 14th Parliament which begins today (Monday), said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun

He said the proposal to conduct a hybrid meeting had been deferred, and the matter regarding hybrid sessions would not be discussed at the five-day special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat, from July 26 to 29 and on Aug 2.
As such, there is no limit on the number of MPs allowed in the House, and all elected representatives can attend, including those who have yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19, he said.

According to the order paper for the five-day sitting, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba will give a statement on efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister, will elaborate on the national vaccination programme.
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will explain the various government economic aid packages while a statement on the implementation of the emergency order will be made by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, expected to be on the last day of the sitting.
