KE delegation meets BQATI

KARACHI: K-Electric delegation headed by CEO Moonis Alvi along with his team has visited Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry (BQATI) Secretariat as part of the power utility’s drive to further strengthen industry facilitation through closer coordination, a statement said.
Alvi was welcomed by BQATI Patron in Chief / Founder President Mian Muhammad Ahmed, Founder Vice President Usman Ahmed and Senior Vice President Iftikhar Ahmed. The meeting was attended by office bearers, members BQATI managing committee, and leading industrialists of Bin Qasim Industrial Zone.
BQATI patron in chief appreciated KE’s efforts to facilitate industries through initiatives such as a simpler and faster process for acquiring new connections and eased accessibility, while senior VP assured of support to KE at all levels with regard to energising industries on war footings.

KARACHI: Following the federal cabinet’s approval of moratorium on gas supply to industrial units for self-generation of electricity, K-Electric (KE) “continues to remain fully committed to facilitating Karachi’s industrial customers in line with the Ministry of Energy’s (Power Division) direction to expedite fresh electricity connections and improve power supplies”.
This was stated by a spokesman for the power utility on Thursday.
He said that the KE was engaged with industrial associations and customers, through dedicated contact points to assess their needs and had collated ‘accurate’ power demands of the sector. “Based on this, a comprehensive roadmap has been developed to enable the shift of captive industrial electricity demand to the power grid in the swiftest way possible,” he added.

The federal government and K-Electric are putting in place required infrastructure and new generators to lift power supply by 40%, or 900 megawatts, to the city of ports, parts of upper Sindh and Balochistan ahead of the forthcoming summer season.
Ongoing efforts to reduce prolonged power outages during sweltering heat may, however, be partly jeopardised. The power utility has expressed a little bit of doubt about getting new gas connection for its under-construction power plant at Bin Qasim, Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference the other day, K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi said that the entity was setting up two 450MW power plants and the primary fuel for the plants was re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) or gas.
