Medical equipment manufacturers repair practices a danger to patients | Letter

Medical equipment manufacturers’ repair practices a danger to patients | Letter Updated Mar 12, 2021; As a volunteer at a hospital, I have witnessed medical devices malfunction and need repair before being used again on patients. During the pandemic, I have learned that the technicians and engineers who could perform these repairs, often don’t have access to the tools, information or replacement parts they need. In fact, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group found that 76% of medical repair professionals surveyed have been denied access to repair information and parts by the manufacturer. The increased demand for ventilators during the pandemic led to hospitals pulling the machines out of storage, but many had to wait for a representative from the manufacturer to come out for routine software tests or repairs.

Beaver County Partnership to partner with Johns Hopkins on equity in education

BEAVER Knowledge is power, and a Beaver County group is hoping to use that power to make education more equitable.  The Quality Education Council of the Beaver County Partnership for Community and Economic Growth on Monday received $175,000 in grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Grable Foundation to continue the third phase of its Future of Education in Beaver County Public Schools Feasibility Study.  The third phase of the multi-year study will involve a team from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Research and Reform in Education. It will focus on exploring ways to enhance equitable educational opportunities for students in ways that are both fiscally responsible and sustainable, officials said.
