Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is delivering its AutoMine
® Fleet system to automate a new fleet of Sandvik loaders at Codelco’s Pacifico Superior and Pilar Norte GTI, which are part of the El Teniente mine in Chile. This partnership supports Codelco’s vision to create one of the most sophisticated mines in the world.
AutoMine Fleet is a highly advanced automation system for a fleet of Sandvik underground loaders and trucks sharing the same automated production area. It provides automatic mission control and automatic traffic management for the equipment fleet, while system operators remotely supervise the process.
The system will enable Codelco to operate its new fleet of Sandvik LH517i and Sandvik LH621i loaders autonomously at the El Teniente mine, one of the world’s largest underground copper mines. The project implementation started in December 2020 and is expected to be completed by mid-2021.

HMD Global has launched the Nokia C1 Plus and the phone is available on sale in Kenya. The smartphone is set to retail at Ksh.8,999 in retail stores countywide.
The new Nokia C1 Plus is the most affordable 4G Nokia smartphone with a 4G connectivity, offering wider experiences to more users around the world. The launch of the Nokia C1 comes after the launch of the Nokia C2 in April last year.
With the Nokia C1 Plus, users can enjoy selfies and videos, apps and texts that pop, and immersive entertainment delivered to them crisp and clean. The new smartphone also coms with Android 10 (Go edition), with lighter apps and less bloatware, meaning you can store up to 3000 songs or 13 hours of HD video.
Nokia C1 Plus now available in Kenya for Ksh.8,999 Nokia C1 Plus
HMD Global has today announced the availability of the Nokia C1 Plus in Kenya. The new device in the C-series will be available in blue and red colour options and has been priced at a starting retail price of Ksh 8,999 for 1/16GB configuration.
Speaking during the announcement, Gopher Ogembo, Senior Business Manager at HMD Global said “The Nokia C1 was extremely successful in its mission to bring a great smartphone experience and make that first step to a smartphone truly accessible to all. With the next generation connectivity already out there, operators across the world are optimising and 4G is being adapted as the new base line, leaving many 2G and 3G markets vulnerable to uncertainty.”
The Nokia C1 Plus is a very minor upgrade to the Nokia C1 from 2019. The upgrade here being the fact that the processor is a little different, there’s support for 4G networks, and the OS Version in now Android 10. That’s all. And while the original Nokia C1 started at KES. 6,000, this new model has a recommended retail price of KES. 8,999.
At that price you’re getting 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, a 2500mAh battery, a single 5MP rear camera, and single 5MP front camera. This is definitely the worst pricing decision considering that Nokia’s own original C1 was way cheaper despite sharing similar specs. And so is the Nokia C2 which is also cheaper despite featuring a bigger, better display and more battery. (
