Senior Center, local organizations get boost from federal grant money

ST. CLAIR SHORES Organizations that help local seniors, children, the homeless and more will benefit from money allocated to different public service organizations through the Community Development Block Grant program administered by St. Clair Shores.
Fulfilling requests from nine different public service organizations, along with paying for eligible operations at the St. Clair Shores Senior Activity Center, repavement and repair of eligible streets and repayment of the loan to renovate and expand the senior center, City Council members voted to approve the 2021 annual action plan and budget for the Community Development Block Grant Program at its April 19 meeting.
Southlake appoints new municipal court judge
City Council confirmed Judge Lindsay Marie Kinzie to serve on the Southlake Municipal Court of Records.

The Southlake City Council has appointed a new associate judge to the Municipal Court of Records.
Judge Lindsay Marie Kinzie assumed her new role Saturday. She had most recently served as legal program director at The Gatehouse, a Grapevine nonprofit dedicated to supporting women.
She has also served as assistant district attorney in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office and as a criminal defense attorney for a private law firm in Fort Worth. She earned her law degree from Texas Tech University.
Southlake senior center will reopen soon
The Senior Activity Center is set to welcome back patrons Monday as part of the first phase of its reopening plan.

Southlake’s Senior Activity Center will welcome back patrons Monday, according to a news release.
The reopening is the first phase of its plan “to safely bringing back our seniors to the Senior Center and continue building our community,” the release said.
The center’s staff will deep clean the facility every week, as well as wear face masks.
Soheila Phelps, senior services coordinator, said in the release city officials are excited to reopen the center and serve older Southlake residents.
