The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Thursday, Feb.11 that it has started closely coordinating with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) for the issuance of cash cards for the recipients of the unconditional cash transfer (UCT) and the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens to ensure the immediate delivery of their entitled social welfare benefits amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao apologized for the delayed payout of the UCT to senior citizens, explaining that they have to validate first the master list of beneficiaries because distributing such benefit, which is provided under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act (TRAIN).

A team of researchers under the Good Governance through Data Science and Decision Support System (GODDESS) program of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) is currently developing a data analytics and information system that would ensure the immediate delivery of social welfare services to some 8,000 pensioners in Butuan City.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 4) The House Special Committee on Senior Citizens has approved a bill providing free dialysis coverage for senior citizens.
Under House Bill 7859 filed by Senior Citizens Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes, the cost of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and other Department of Health-approved dialysis procedures conducted at freestanding dialysis centers and accredited hospitals will be reimbursed by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth.
In seeking the bill s approval, Ordanes said chronic kidney disease has become one of the causes of death among senior citizens, with demand for dialysis increasing by 400% in the past 10 years.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio signed Executive Order (EO) No. 1 Series of 2021 on January 20, 2021, which aims to institutionalize and effectively implement the provisions of City Ordinance No. 01Q05-19, Series of 2019.

Octogenarians are persons aged 80 years old, while nonagenarians are those who are 90 years old.
