Several fog bows - otherwise known as white rainbows - were spotted across the Netherlands over the weekend. Did you manage to see one?
Fog bows on the Wadden Islands and in Friesland
On the whole, the weekend was a sunny one, but the Dutch Weather Institute also issued a code yellow warning for dense mist. These weather conditions were ideal for the forming of fog bows!
Fog bows are similar phenomena to rainbows, only these appear in the fog instead of in the rain. They are formed when sunlight hits water droplets in the air, but because the water droplets that cause fog are exceedingly small, there’s no distinct arc of colours.
