No scarcity of places for HE students, says university body
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh said that there will be no crisis of seats in the country’s educational institutions for students pursuing higher education as there are about 1.32 million available seats in the various institutions, both private and public, for students of honours, degree (pass) and equivalent courses, reports the

UGC member Professor Muhammad Alamgir said: “There will be no scarcity of seats at different universities and affiliated colleges of the country. Almost all the students who completed their Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent education this year will have access to higher education. However, there will be fierce competition among the students for securing admission in their preferred institutions and subjects.”

Except Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) will hold cluster system admission test.
The admission test of engineering universities will be held after the tests of medical colleges and BUET, sources said.
RUET Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Islam said, “We have come to know that BUET will not take part in cluster system admission test. We have not yet received any formal letter from them. Under this circumstance, we three other engineering universities will take test in a coordinated way.”

The UGC came up with the assurance in a statement on Sunday after all the students passed HSC assessments of 2020, which were graded without the exams being held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Over 1.36 million students who have cleared the hurdle are now eligible for admission to undergraduate courses.
Per the UGC, the colleges and universities have about 1.32 million seats available for the students.
Of these, 70,095 seats are up for grabs in 39 public universities, 203,675 in private universities, 872,815 in colleges under the National University, 60,000 in Islamic and Arabic universities, 77,756 under the Open University, 440 in two international universities, and around 10,500 seats in medical and dental colleges, ac

Top officials of universities at a virtual meeting with the University Grants Commission (UGC) yesterday said the academic councils at their respective universities had agreed to join the uniform admission test titled Central Admission Test .
Representatives of the UGC, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, attended the meeting.
