MUZAFFARABAD: Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq and Riaz Ahmed of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) were elected speaker and deputy speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, respectively, on Tuesday.
They defeated Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Nisara Abbasi of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by securing 32 votes each as against 15 each of their opponents. Mr Rathore and Ms Abbasi were joint candidates of the two parties.
Earlier, at the inaugural session, 49 out of 52 newly elected members of the AJK Legislative Assembly were administered the oath of office by outgoing speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir.

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly gathered here on Tuesday, with outgoing speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir in the chair, during which 48 newly elected members were sworn in.
Outgoing Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir administered the oath to the legislators after the notification of their election was read out by the Secretary Assembly.
Three newly elected members were not sworn in outgoing opposition leader and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Chaudhary Yaseen, who has been elected on two seats; Muslim Conference leader Sardar Attique, who was not present in the House; and PPP’s Chaudhry Javed Budhanvi, who is said to be sick with Covid-19.

The newly elected members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Tuesday took oath of their new duties with PTI candidate Anwarul Haq elected as speaker and Riaz Gujjar deputy speaker.
Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir administered the oath to the newly elected members. Among those who took the oath were six women.
Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan of the Muslim Conference and Javed Iqbal Badhanivi of the Pakistan Peoples Party could not take the oath.
In the meeting, PTI s Chaudhry Anwarul Haq got 32 votes and was elected speaker. Opposition candidate Faisal Mumtaz Rathore got 15 votes.

MUZAFFARABAD: As was expected, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) clinched three more reserved seats of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Monday, raising its strength to 32 in the 53-member house.
In an earlier development, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had decided to vote for their joint candidates against the three seats reserved for technocrats, ulema/mashaikh and overseas Kashmiris, even though the names of all nine from the three contesting parties had got printed on ballot papers.
