GAZA, June 16 ― Israeli aircraft struck Hamas sites in Gaza today after incendiary balloons were launched from the Palestinian enclave in the first such attacks since a fragile ceasefire ended 11 days of deadly fighting last month.
The violence poses an early test for the government of new Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, whose patchwork coalition came to power on Sunday on a pledge to focus on socioeconomic issues and avoid sensitive policy choices towards the Palestinians.

GAZA (Reuters) -Israel mounted air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the first since the end of 11 days of cross-border fighting last month, in response to incendiary balloons launched from the Palestinian territory.
The flare-up, a first test for Israel s new government, followed a march in East Jerusalem on Tuesday by Jewish nationalists that had drawn threats of action by Hamas, the ruling militant group in Gaza.
The Israeli military said its aircraft attacked Hamas armed compounds in Gaza City and the southern town of Khan Younis and was ready for all scenarios, including renewed fighting in the face of continued terrorist acts emanating from Gaza .

The Israeli military said its aircraft attacked Hamas armed compounds in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday
in response to 20 fires sparked by incendiary balloons launched earlier in the day from the territory into southern Israel.
At least one explosive balloon was reported over southern Israel, with
residents reporting that they saw and heard the balloon explode in the air, according to Israeli media.
In a statement, the military said that it was ready for all scenarios, including renewed fighting in the face of continued terrorist acts emanating from Gaza .
