Wreckless Eric s Whole Wide World Offers Musical Escape on The Goldbergs

By @jammminjessie You might know the name Wreckless Eric, from his famous 1976 track Whole Wide World . You also might remember the name from it being tied to Cage The Elephant, who covered the track back in 2017 for their stripped down acoustic album Unpeeled . Well, since then Wreckless Eric (a.k.a. Eric Goulden) has battled Covid-19 and has since recovered and now will have his famous song resonate with a national television audience on an upcoming episode of the ABC-TV hit comedy The Goldbergs. “’Whole Wide World’ is and was always about escape,” admits Wreckless Eric. “The Goldbergs offers a brief escape from the horrors of our time.”

That show aired on Friday, December 18. Here, you can listen to the show stream on demand. Paul writes: For over 25 years, Rita Houston has brought countless hours of unforgettable radio to WFUV listeners. Many New Yorkers, and now worldwide web listeners, can mark their life changes by songs and words that Rita shared through this magical, eternal medium of broadcasting. They say the waves keep going on forever through space, as long as we keep sending them. But everything ends eventually and radio waves carrying Rita s music choices and unmistakable voice aired one last time for The Whole Wide World on December 18, 2020. We had hoped that she could enjoy the pre-recorded show listening at home, in the good company of Laura, Deb, Banjo and Emmylou.

[It is with great sadness that we at WFUV share news that we have lost Rita Houston, our much-loved program director and iconic DJ to generations of listeners listeners who regarded her as their radio friend. Rita left this world this morning, December 15, 2020, in the loving company of her wife and our colleague, Laura Fedele, and her family.
