Subscriber only A grandmother who started 2021 off by downing 18 beers before getting behind the wheel has been reminded by a judge just how dangerous drink driving can be. The grandmother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in Murgon Magistrates Court to driving while under the influence on Tuesday, February 2. Police Prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens told the court the woman was intercepted for a routine check at 7.10am on January 1. She admitted to police that she had consumed 18 stubbies of XXXX Gold beer between 10.30am and 3am the night before and returned a reading of 0.077 BAC.

Subscriber only After being seriously assaulted and calling triple-zero, the last thing a Proston man was expecting was to be tasered and charged with obstructing police. But that s exactly what occurred to 57-year-old Darren Arthur Bricknell, who faced Murgon Magistrates Court on February 2. Bricknell pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing a police officer after a violent incident on January 16. Police prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens told the court police were called to a Proston address at 11.45pm where they found Bricknell in his front yard with a large laceration to his head. He told police the injuries occurred when he was assaulted by several people.

Subscriber only Two Murgon women were sent into a panic when a local sex pest illegally entered their backyards at the break of dawn and offered them money for sexual favours, a court heard. Liam Norman Gene Byers pleaded guilty to 10 charges before Murgon Magistrates Court, including two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, two counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent, two counts of indecent act in any place with intent to insult or offend any person, stealing, and entering or remaining in a dwelling or yard. At 4am on October 17, 2020, Byers entered the backyard of a 66-year-old woman, and tried to enter her home, pulling at the screen door in an attempt to open it.

Police update: Wounding, South Burnett
South Burnett detectives have charged a 55-year-old man following an investigation into the wounding of a man in Proston on November 20.
Police attended an address on Susan Crescent in response to a neighbourhood dispute which allegedly involved the Proston man who shot a 23-year-old man in the leg.
The 23-year-old local man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment.
Following a comprehensive investigation by Murgon detectives, the 55-year-old man was arrested yesterday (December 22) and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
The man is expected to appear in the Murgon Magistrates Court on February 9, 2021.

Drugs, firearms and ammunition seized at Durong property
Police have charged a man following the discovery of drugs and several firearms during the execution of a search warrant at a Durong property yesterday (December 15).
Detectives from Murgon CIB executed the search warrant at a Ridge Road property around 1:30pm, following an anonymous tip off from Crime Stoppers.
During the search police allegedly uncovered three firearms secreted in a wall, as well as a quantity of ammunition and two cannabis plants.
Detective Acting Inspector Jim Steginga of Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch said: “the removal of firearms from anyone who is not authorised to possess them is incredibly important in protecting the safety of everyone in our community and I encouraged anyone with information with respect to any unlawful possession of firearms to contact Crime stoppers, which can be done anonymously if they wish”.
