March 9, 2021 Lester Holt, news anchor for NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC, will receive the Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award and give the keynote speech virtually on March 30. PULLMAN, Wash. – The Murrow College at Washington State University is delighted to host the virtual 45th Murrow Symposium on March 30–31, 2021. Originally scheduled for March 2020, the 45th Murrow Symposium was postponed last year due to the COVID‑19 pandemic. This year’s virtual environment presents added opportunities for participants, including master classes and networking spaces, as well as open sessions for high school students and community members to attend. “Technology continues to transform how and where we communicate, and students from around the globe will be able to participate in this year’s Symposium,” said Bruce Pinkleton, dean of Murrow College at WSU. “While I’m looking forward to bringing the event back to Pullman, we’ll continue to use technology to reach ac

At Murrow College, he researches how political information and misinformation flows across digital platforms over time and how journalists report on political conflict and controversy.  Targeting students when they are in the classroom is an important aspect of learning about misinformation and politics, Foley said. The mission of the UW Center for an Informed Public is to resist misinformation, promote an informed society and strengthen democratic discourse. These are some of the things that will be discussed on MisInfoDay with students. What happens in the classroom and interactions with their peers and when they re in school are really where they develop the information hygiene habits of tracking down correct information, Foley said.

March 5, 2021 The Gamma Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Washington State University is accepting applications through April 1, 2021 from undergraduates for 2021-22 scholarships that cover full tuition costs plus mandatory fees. Students from all WSU campuses are eligible to apply. “The Gamma Chapter is very pleased to once again offer scholarships that recognize and foster excellence in liberal learning at the undergraduate level,” said Kim Holapa, chair of the chapter’s scholarship committee. Since the 2010-11 academic year, the Gamma Chapter has awarded generous scholarships to rising seniors from a variety of majors. Also, each spring the chapter invites new members to join the society, becoming members for life.
