The commuters organisation of the Mumbai local have threatened the Maharashtra government to stage a protest if they do not adhere to their demands of allowing public access to the local trains. The state government has assured the people that they will soon take a decision on this.
Owing to the COVID-19 spread and lockdown the state had only allowed government officials and essentials services workers to commute through the local trains.

MUMBAI: Nearly 4.2 lakh class VIII to XII students in rural Maharashtra attended physical school as offline classes started on Thursday, a month after the new academic year began. No school in any of the villages in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) conducted physical classes.
The figures released by the state goverment showed that 5,947 schools in 25 of the 35 districts reopened on Thursday. Kolhapur saw the maximum attendance with nearly 1.6 lakh students in 940 schools. In Aurangabad, 631 schools welcomed 21,599 students, while in Pune, 90 schools opened their gates to 3,505 children. State data showed that none of the 2,150 schools in Thane district could have physical classes. Villages have to be Covid-free for a month to start offline schools.

Mumbai, July 16 : Heavy overnight rains lashed Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) hitting road and rail traffic, though flight operation at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was normal.
Water-logging was reported from chronic spots of Dadar, Parel, Wadala, Sion, besides low-lying areas in Malad, Santacruz, Dahisar.
While the suburban services on the Central Railway were hit badly with delays of over 30-minutes due to speed restrictions, Western Railway traffic has not been affected.
K.S. Hosalikar, Head of Climate Research and Services, Pune shared the latest satellite images at 8.30 a.m. indicating intense clouds over Mumbai suburbs and Thane leading to some very intense spells in the last 3-4 hours.
