The first Oxygen Express carrying seven empty tankers left from Kalamboli goods yard in Navi Mumbai yesterday (19 April) near Mumbai for Visakhapatnam, where they will be loaded with liquid oxygen for transportation to Maharashtra, the Indian Railways said. The Indian Railways pressed into operation the Ro-Ro service in response to its fight against Covid-19. The public transporter has also waived over-dimensioned consignment charge (ODC) for Oxygen Express. The transport of liquid medical oxygen shall be free from levy of over-dimensioned consignment, the railway notification stated.

Highlights Amid Covid-19 crisis, first Oxygen Express rakes left from Mumbai region to Vizag Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had informed that the Centre was creating a green corridor for fast movement of `Oxygen Express` trains to facilities for the smooth transport of oxygen to states. Mumbai: Amid the worsening COVID-19 situation, the first ‘Oxygen Express’ departed from Central Railway`s Kalamboli Yard on Monday evening to ferry liquid oxygen for Maharashtra from Vishakhapatnam steel plant in Andhra Pradesh.  In a statement, the Ministry of Railways informed that the Mumbai Division built a ramp overnight within 24 hours at Kalamboli goods yard to facilitate loading/unloading of tankers in/from flat wagons.

Mumbai: Mayur Shelke, who works as a pointsman, was seen in CCTV visuals, sprinting towards the child on the rail tracks and pushing him on to the platform in the nick of time while a speeding train was approaching the Vangani railway station in Maharashtra. Mr Shelke too managed to jump on to the platform just in time. The station is about 90 km from Mumbai.
