Cape Town - Cabinet has denied that e-tolls in Gauteng will be scrapped following a statement by the provinceâs MEC for Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, during a radio interview on Thursday morning that a decision on the matter had been taken.
âWe are waiting for that to be formalised but where we are there is no turning back on the e-tolls. The e-tolls are a thing of the past and we are waiting for that to be formalised or confirmed. They have been scrapped, the people of Gauteng should not be burdened with paying for national roads,â Mamabolo told SA FM.

Rural board members reject one-off rates increase
More than half of Auckland respondents and 70 per cent of those from Rodney did not support the Mayor’s proposed one-off five per cent rates rise and 10-year budget during recent public consultation.
As a result, two Rodney Local Board members – Colin Smith from Wellsford and Warkworth’s Tim Holdgate – voted against supporting the five per cent increase at an extraordinary meeting to provide Local Board input on the budget on May 5.
Mr Smith said he simply couldn’t support something that so many local residents had been against and asked for the rates increase to be voted on as a stand-alone item in a much longer list of feedback.
A YOUNG PERSON with severe learning difficulties has been given a place at a specialist educational needs school after a county council U-turn. Denny Black, four, of Hensingham was initially denied a place at Whitehaven s Mayfield School and was faced with attending a mainstream school, despite having highly complex needs. An ongoing Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision crisis in West Cumbria means there is not enough funding to meet demand for the places needed. His mum Karen Stamper said: “I got a lot of help from Sally Godfrey, part of the SEND team and Ruth Ramsay.” Ruth had been in Karen’s position herself in 2019 when her son, who also has complex needs, was denied a place at Mayfield.
