Narayanasamy calls for clarity, departmental coordination
Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said multiple orders on lockdown restrictions were creating chaos and confusion, and called for clarity and coordination from various departments.
In a video message, Mr. Narayanasamy said a succession of lockdown orders had come out in different forms, causing confusion among merchants, traders, fleet operators and others.
He asked the Centre to ensure that the oxygen requirements of hospitals, including private facilities in Puducherry, were met before diverting supplies to other States.
He alleged that the Centre had, without the knowledge of the Puducherry government, directed the diversion of oxygen cylinders, produced within the Union Territory, to other States. Such a measure would hinder hospitals in Puducherry from meeting patients’ requirements, he claimed.

SRINAGAR: On April 20, Turab Shah, 30, received a call from her sister, Ishrat, 37. She informed him about being tested COVID-19 positive. Ishrat along with her husband lives in the Gulab Bagh area of Srinagar. But a day before she was tested positive, she was at her brother’s home in Karan Nagar, where she met her elderly mother too. “Get all family members tested immediately,” Ishrat told Shah over the phone.
Acting quickly, shah got all of his family members tested. Shah’s brother, mother and father turned positive. The health conditions of all of them in a day’s period of time changed. They were now visibly symptomatic: fever, breathlessness and body pain, all symptoms gripped them quickly. The family is clueless about how they actually contracted the virus.

‘Restore elective OPD services at Jipmer’
Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has sought the intervention of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in restoring the suspended elective OPD services at Jipmer.
In a letter to the Minister, Mr. Narayanasamy referred to Jipmer’s decision of April 25 to temporarily suspend elective physical OPD visits as a transmission containment measure in view of the spate of coronavirus cases recently, and stated that the suspension would totally negate the regular medical treatment for the people of Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and the other adjoining States.
I will only blame the PM for the present situation in hospitals: Narayanasamy
Former Chief Minister of Puducherry and senior Congress leader V. Narayanasamy on Saturday blamed the Centre’s “inept handling” of the second wave of coronavirus for the tragedy unfolding across several States.
In a video message to the media, Mr. Narayanasamy said the poor planning on the part of the Centre to anticipate the need for drugs and oxygen in hospitals for pandemic-stricken patients had resulted in the unabated rise of cases during the second wave.
Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of inept handling of the COVID-19 situation, Mr. Narayanasamy said there was a dire shortage of anti-viral drugs, medical oxygen and vaccines in several parts of the country.
