Topic to stream Poppie Nongena

| 19 February 2021 Recently launched streaming service Topic from First Look Media has struck a deal with London-based content development, financing and executive producing company Fugitive to air exclusively in North America from 8 April Poppie Nongena, one of South Africa’s most acclaimed films of recent years. Based on Elsa Joubert’s 1978 international bestseller The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena, regarded as one of the best African novels of the 20th century, the two-hour film tells the true-life story of a mother’s struggle to keep her family together during the Apartheid period, specifically just prior to the Sharpeville and Soweto riots. It’s a time of immense upheaval, when inhumane government regulations constantly separated husbands, wives and children, often resettling them in remote areas designated as black homelands.

Chris Gethard s podcast Beautiful/Anonymous to become a TV show

Besides The Chris Gethard Show (R.I.P.), comedian Chris Gethard’s biggest project to date has been his hit podcast Beautiful/Anonymous, where he chats with a stranger for an hour. The are only two rules: He won’t know their name and he can’t hang up first – no matter what. Now, the massively popular Beautiful/Anonymous is getting the TV treatment, premiering on February 11 on First Look Media’s streaming service, Topic. Advertisement The TV show will work similarly to the podcast, where Gethard tweets out the B/A phone number and has a half-hour conversation with the lucky stranger picked to talk to him. But while Gethard won’t know who he’s talking to, the TV version’s conversations will “be illustrated by different imagery such as still photos and video footage,” per a recent press release.

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a documentary from factual independent True Vision and London-based independent producer Nevision, in association with Topic, the fast-growing North American streaming service from First Look Media, on the Irish mother and baby home scandal, entitled The Missing Children (wt). Irish public service broadcaster RTÉ is co-producing the project, which it will air as a feature documentary. The Missing Children is available in multiple formats including a 3 x 45’ as well as a feature length special. Abacus Media Rights has global rights to The Missing Children and Jonathan Ford’s new company was instrumental in bringing on board Topic and RTÉ.
