Recent months have shown that the phrase “free speech” is often misunderstood. Americans generally know about the First Amendment, but most cannot name the five freedoms it guarantees – the freedoms of religion, speech, press, peaceful assembly and government petition.

The original banner hung in the Newseum in Washington, DC. Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Bong Hits 4 Jesus Banner is now at the First Amendment Museum in Augusta, Maine, after attempts to display it in Juneau failed.
That s according to Juneau Attorney Douglas Mertz who represented Joseph Frederick who was a student at Juneau Douglas High School in 2002 when he unfurled the banner across the street from the high school while the Olympic Torch Relay was running past.
After the principal tore it from his hands and suspended him from school, Frederick said his free speech rights were violated and he appealed his suspension.
