This was highly noticed in the past months as concerns on individual health and environmental welfare heightened amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Hearing the louder call to harness cleaner sources of energy, both public and private sectors have strengthened their commitments to energize the country through renewables. On the government’s part, the Department of Energy (DoE), through Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, reaffirmed its commitment last year to develop the country’s renewable resources in fulfillment of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

First Gen income rises 29% on higher recurring revenues

BusinessWorld May 14, 2021 | 7:03 pm First Gen Corp. saw its net income attributable to its parent grow by 29% year on year to P4.01 billion ($84 million) in the first quarter, thanks to higher recurring earnings from its natural gas and renewable energy (RE) portfolios. In a statement, the Lopez-led power generation company said it generated P3.8 billion ($78 million) in recurring net income in the first three months of 2021, a 21% increase from a year ago’s P3.3 billion ($65 million), “from the operations of its 3,495 MW clean, low-carbon, and renewable portfolio.” First Gen said it also benefited from new contracts, and lower operating and interest expenses.

First Gen supplying Ali Mall with hydropower on May 11, 2021 at 5:43 pm First Gen Corporation has been tapped by the Araneta Group to supply renewable energy (RE) to the iconic Ali Mall in Cubao, Quezon City. The Lopez-led firm, through subsidiary Bacman Geothermal, Inc. (BGI), signed an agreement with Araneta City, Inc. (ACI), the Araneta Group’s property arm. Under the two-year deal, BGI will supply the mall with 2.1 megawatts (MW) of power from First Gen’s 132MW Pantabangan-Masiway hydroelectric plant in Nueva Ecija. “We at First Gen are happy that the Araneta Group has accepted our offer to be a partner in the task even if daunting of reducing the buildup of more heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere,” First Gen Vice President for Marketing Carlo Vega said in a statement.

First Gen supplies RE-based power to Ali Mall

Published May 10, 2021, 4:17 PM Lopez-led First Gen Corporation has cornered another property developer client on its supply of renewable energy (RE) – and its customer this time is Ali Mall in Quezon City of the Araneta group. In a statement to the media, the Lopez firm noted that power supply agreement  (PSA) was cemented between Araneta City Inc. (ACI), which is the property development arm of the Araneta Group; and that of BacMan Geothermal Inc. (BGI), a wholly owned subsidiary of First Gen. In that supply deal, the Lopez firm will have to deliver 2.1 megawatts of power to the Ali Mall property of the Araneta company. The price of the power offtake agreement had not been disclosed by the parties.
