Lithuania to supplement pensions of lone seniors

Lithuania is planning to issue a supplementary pension to retired people who are single, Social Security and Labour Minister Monika Navickienė said on Tuesday. In the near future, the Social Security and Labour Ministry will submit draft legislation to provide additional financial support to all people who live alone, not only widows and widowers, starting in July 2021, the minister told LRT RADIO.
The single person s pension will grow and expand in 2022 , she added.
The monthly benefit will replace the widow s and widower s pension that currently amounts to 28 euros and is paid to around 210,000 people.
Stonewalled by Minsk, US ambassador to Belarus will reside in Vilnius

Julie Fisher, the US ambassador to Belarus, will temporarily reside in Vilnius as she does not have a visa to travel to Minsk, Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Mantas Adomėnas said on Wednesday.
The US has formally asked the Lithuanian government to accredit the ambassador to Lithuania, Adomėnas told BNS, adding that the government has yet to formulate its formal consent . This makes us extremely happy, he said, adding that Lithuania received the US request on Monday.
The US embassy to Lithuania confirmed to BNS that Belarus had not yet issued a visa to Fisher, but it did not comment on whether she would reside in Vilnius.
