Five of War s biggest albums will be pressed on colored vinyl for a limited edition box set available exclusively for Record Store Day 2021 on July 17.

Few bass lines can be said to define an entire West Coast vibe, but War co-founder B.B. Dickerson’s funky maneuvers on “Low Rider” along with a well-placed cowbell did just that.
Dickerson, who died Saturday at 71, made his name driving the bottom end of a seven-man Southern California musical institution known for hits including “Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness” and “Spill the Wine.”
Howard Scott, War co-founder and Dickerson’s uncle, said that Dickerson died in a Long Beach retirement home due to complications from a series of strokes.
Sampled by hundreds of artists including Janet Jackson, Kanye West, De La Soul, Mac Miller, Madlib, the Beastie Boys and DJ Quik, the rhythms that Dickerson built with drummer Harold Brown and percussionist Thomas “Papa Dee” Allen united the sounds of rock, soul and Latin music to create an essence that was distinctively Californian.

One Night in Miami., the feature-length directorial debut by Oscar-winning actress Regina King, based on the play by Kemp Powers, is one of the best-reviewed movies of the year. Featuring outstanding performances by all four lead actors Eli Goree as Muhammad Ali, Kinglsey Ben-Adir as Malcolm X, Leslie Odom, Jr. as Sam Cooke and Aldis Hodge as Jim Brown it qualifies as a must-see.
One Night in Miami.: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (ABKCO) is also highly recommended.
In addition to jazz musician Terence Blanchard s knockout of a score, the soundtrack features Odom performing a number of Cooke s most beloved and popular songs. Odom does a sensational job of capturing Cooke s phrasing and vocal technique on You Send Me, Chain Gang, A Change Is Gonna Come, as well as on his own original co-composition, Speak Now.
