Andretti navigates personal loss, loneliness of pandemic
Mario Andretti is loneliest at night, when he s home alone in his sprawling Pennsylvania mansion, and there s no one to talk to but Gonzo, his 34-year-old Amazon parrot. One of the greatest racers of all time is struggling, not unlike so many people around the world during this pandemic that has devastated families and claimed more than 3 million lives.

Scott McLaughlin has finished 14th at Barber Motorsports Park to commence his first full-time IndyCar Series campaign with Team Penske.
McLaughlin, who won three straight Supercars Championship crowns between 2018 and 2020, ran as high as ninth following a dramatic first-lap incident.
Alex Palou, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, managed to win the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by AmFirst, having pipped Arrow McLaren SP s pole-sitter Pato O’Ward on strategy before holding off McLaughlin’s Australian teammate and 2014 series champion Will Power.

Spain s Alex Palou claimed his first IndyCar Series win in his Chip Ganassi debut, fending off a late challenge from Will Power to capture the IndyCar Grand Prix of Alabama on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Palou won in his 15th career IndyCar start. He drove last year for Dale Coyne Racing. We knew we had the best team, the best car, Palou said. Yeah, it was possible. Ricky, my chief engineer, told me we cannot win them all, but let s win the first one. We did it, it s amazing. Chip, all the team did an amazing job. We had the best cars. It’s amazing to be part of the winning drivers and starting strong.

Luke âSpikeâ Kohlbecker likes to say that he comes from a racing family. His grandfather, Jerroy A. Frank of Glendale, had a passion for cars â the faster the better â and even honeymooned with his new wife at the famous Road America, a raceway located in Wisconsinâs scenic Kettle Moraine.
âHe just loved being around cars and he became a car collector. When my mom was a little girl, family vacations consisted of going to races and car shows,â Kohlbecker said.
Kohlbecker, 18, has been âfollowing the dreamâ laid by his grandfather, racing âanything that has wheelsâ since he was 3 years old. His first racetrack was his Kirkwood familyâs driveway.
