Man dies after vehicle crash in Gresham: police

Gresham on the South Side.
About 11:25 p.m., he was the passenger of a 2007 black SUV crashed into a tree in the 8600 block of South Vincennes Avenue, according to Chicago police.
He and the driver, a 59-year-old man, were rushed to Christ Medical Center. The 26-year-old was pronounced dead and the older man later refused treatment.
The Cook County medical center identified him as Willie Jacobs. He lived in Marquette Park.
Area Two detectives and Chicago police’s Major Accidents Unit are investigating.

A cyclist died over a week after he was struck in a hit-and-run in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.
The 47-year-old man was riding a bicycle about 10:50 p.m. Dec. 19 in the 5600 block of South California Avenue when someone in a southbound vehicle hit him and fled the scene, Chicago police said.
The man, later identified as Demetrio Ruiz Macias, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled an accident.
Macias lived in Chicago Lawn, the medical examiner’s office said.

Chicago police are seeking a car wanted in connection with a double fatal hit-and-run Wednesday in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.
A westbound driver hit a 48-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son about 8:10 p.m. in a crosswalk in the 3100 block of West 55th Street, and kept on driving, Chicago police said.
The car possibly was a dark-colored 2009-2012 Chevy Malibu with front-end damage near the driver’s side headlight, police said in a community alert. The driver sped off and drove north on South Sawyer Avenue from 55th Street towards 51st Street.
