More details about the 35th Golden Disc Awards have been released, and it includes this year s theme and the stage setup.
The Golden Disc Awards is one of the major awards ceremonies that take place in South Korea every year to acknowledge the achievements of Korean stars in the local music industry. The event has been conducted since 1986 and 2021 marks its 35th year.
For the first time, the Golden Disc Awards will be held in an on-tact manner, which means without an audience, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Reports also state that all performances of Korean artists will be pre-recorded and the red carpet will instead display images taken at a photoshoot conducted beforehand.

On Dec. 10, the Golden Disc Awards with Curaprox released their list of candidates for each major category. The nominee s list was released on the Golden Disc Award s official home page. Some popular artists who were included in the nominee s list include BTS, EXO, TWICE, BLACKPINK, and ITZY.
The nominees are meant to represent the top singers and idols who had a huge year in 2020. Whether their careers continued to skyrocket or they saw their breakthrough this 2020, artists who were a notable name in the industry were given a nomination. Despite how they seem to suit these characteristics, IZ ONE was excluded from the nominations.
For the Rookie Award, the candidates are CRAVITY, ENHYPEN, H&D, MCND, TOO, TREASURE, Hojoong Kim, Driffin, Shin Yeyoung, Wii, and Eunsang Lee.
Works released from November 2019 through November 2020 are qualified to be nominated this year. Songs and albums that were excluded from the evaluation due to the previous year s judging count deadline are included in this year s judging. Nominees are selected based on quantitative measures such as sales. The final winners will be chosen based on sales (60%) and the judging panel s scores (40%).
The judging panel comprises the ceremony s executive committee alongside 50 industry professionals including music critics, directors of music programs, music distribution representatives, journalists specializing in music, and more. They will be evaluating qualitative measures such as the music s achievement and influence on the public.
