That led to the development of tactical nuclear weapons for use against military or military-related targets. Teams of Army Green Berets were trained to carry those nukes to their targets, which they saw as a one-way mission. Throughout the Cold War, as the nuclear arms race became more frantic, a nuclear confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union remained a major concern.
