TOKYO – U.S. Forces Korea reported 16 new coronavirus patients Thursday, the bulk of them new arrivals to the peninsula, and U.S. commands in Japan reported five new cases. In Japan, the capital city reported another 279 infections Thursday, according to the public broadcaster NHK. About 270 people per day are still contracting the virus in Tokyo, according to metro government data.

OKINAWA, Japan During exercise Hagåtña Fury 21, Marines and Sailors with Combat Logistics Regiment 3 honed expeditionary advanced base operations and distributed maritime operations capabilities across U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, alongside elements of 3d Marine Division and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, from February 18 to March 1. The overall operation was designed to test CLR-3’s ability to conduct distributed command and control of forces providing EABO sustainment across INDOPACOM via a robust communications network, while executing various mission profiles in support of III Marine Expeditionary Force “Fight Now” concepts. During the exercise, CLR-3 simultaneously conducted command and control of forces from 3d Landing Support Battalion, 3d Transportation Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Battalion 4, and Combat Logistics Battalion 3, to include Marine Air-Ground Task Force enablers, across Hawaii, Guam, and Okinawa.

Marine Dies in Surfing Accident Near Okinawa s Ikei Island

Military officials are investigating the accident, it adds. No additional details about the incident were immediately released. Ikei Island is a popular swimming, jet skiing and camping spot east of central Okinawa. It s accessible by bridge and features a white sand beach and clear waters, but sections of the Ikei Island chain are listed among the most dangerous water spots in Okinawa. This is the second fatal surfing accident involving Marines in about seven months. In August, 1st Lt. Clark Perkins, a 25-year-old student pilot with Marine Aviation Training Support Group-22, was on liberty when a wave pushed him into the rocks while he was surfing in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was rushed to Corpus Christi Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
