Senate Republicans are calling on top Biden administration officials to walk back support of an international plan to waive Covid-19 vaccine IP protections, calling the decision a âgiveawayâ to China and India that will only promote âvaccine nationalism.â
Countries like China that regularly steal U.S. intellectual property began urging the World Trade Organization to waive IP rights âalmost immediately after these vaccines were proven to work,â Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) wrote in a letter today to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
âThese nations are falsely claiming that granting such a waiver would speed the development of new vaccine capacity. Nothing could be further from the truth,â they said in the letter, obtained by Bloomberg Law.

NEW JERSEY - The CDC on Thursday changed its guidance on masking, saying fully vaccinated people should not have to wear masks or social distance indoors or outdoors except under certain circumstances. And that could lead to changes in New Jersey.
Gov. Phil Murphy has said that such a move would be a game-changer, and he s suggested that New Jersey could loosen its coronavirus restrictions once the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its guidelines.
The change in guidance comes after New Jersey and Connecticut governors announced that capacity limits at restaurants, stores, offices and other areas of life are set to be lifted by May 19 in the tri-state area.
Mask Guidance Update
Governor Phil Scott on Friday announced a change in the state’s mask mandate policy. Effective May 1st, when you are outdoors, masks are only required when you are in a crowd or with multiple other households where you can’t maintain a 6-foot distance. This change in guidance reflects changes made by the CDC this week to mask wearing. Find full prevention information at the Health Department website.
