This Week in Apps: Apple talks App Store fraud, responds to antitrust complaints; Facebook growth is slipping
Welcome back to This Week in Apps, the weekly TechCrunch series that recaps the latest in mobile OS news, mobile applications and the overall app economy.
The app industry continues to grow, with a record 218 billion downloads and $143 billion in global consumer spend in 2020. Consumers last year also spent 3.5 trillion minutes using apps on Android devices alone. And in the U.S., app usage surged ahead of the time spent watching live TV. Currently, the average American watches 3.7 hours of live TV per day, but now spends four hours per day on their mobile devices.

Nuu bites off a little more than it can chuu with the F4L ($79.99), an Android-powered flip phone with sluggish performance. I appreciate that the F4L supports WhatsApp for superior messaging, but it could use a bit more thought in the software and oomph in the hardware. For $10 less, get the Nokia 6300 4G, which lacks the flip-phone aesthetic but is a more capable device.
A Basic Phone for Basic Needs
Who s Nuu? Nuu is the US brand of a Chinese phone maker, also known as Sun Cupid, that has been in the electronics business since 1979. It s been kicking around the edges of the US mobile phone market for years now, putting out flip phones and low-cost Android smartphones. We ve reviewed Nuu phones as far back as 2015. The F4L is Verizon-certified, and is sold by US Mobile.

Decompiling FlatBuffers case study: Facebook s GraphQL schema

Back in 2017, while looking for an open-source client for Facebook s Messenger,
I stumbled upon fbchat.
A project that implements an open-source interface for Facebook s Messenger.
Knowing full-well that Facebook did not officially expose that interface for user-to-user communication, I became intrigued.
From what I knew from libpurple s it would have had to use MQTT, but it was not the case.
This implementation used a REST based API, digging through the source-code I found out it used a version of the GraphQL API.
After digging a bit on the internet I realised that there existed no public documentation of this particular API.
