Ontarians ages 60 and older can book coronavirus vaccine appointment through province's portal starting tomorrow

Last Updated Tuesday, April 6, 2021 12:46PM EDT Starting tomorrow, the provincial COVID-19 vaccine booking system will open up appointments to people ages 60 and over in all public health units currently using the province s portal. Appointments are currently available to people over the age of 70, with the exception of Toronto and Peel Region, which have been vaccinating people ages 60 and older since April 2. The Ford government dropped the age of eligibility this week as the province enters Phase 2 of its vaccination program.

Peel schools to go remote-only for at least two weeks amid surging coronavirus case counts

Published Monday, April 5, 2021 1:25PM EDT Last Updated Monday, April 5, 2021 3:01PM EDT Schools in Peel Region will switch to remote-only instruction as of tomorrow. Peel Region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lawrence Loh has used his discretionary powers under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act to issue an order requiring the closure of all schools in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga for in-person learning as of April 6. The order will remain in effect for at least two weeks, meaning schools will not be able to reopen until after the delayed March break now scheduled for next week. The moves comes just days after Education Minister Stephen Lecce told reporters that the Ford government had no plans to close schools amid surging COVID-19 case numbers and would instead have students return to “elevated” infection prevention and control measures and asymptomatic testing following the break.
