INVERCLYDE Shed has clinched a £500,000 grant to renovate a building in Greenock and transform it into a community workshop. The organisation, with support from the council, received the payment from the Scottish Government for a Make, Grow and Share project which will help secure its future for the next 25 years. The money will be used to refurbish the rundown old council shed in East Blackhall Street, opposite East India Harbour, over the next year. It will create a hub for people to share their expertise, learn new skills and put them to good use in the wider community. Bruce Newlands, chairman, said: Our members are delighted with the news that the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund will support our project with Inverclyde Council.

A community-owned island estate has bought an important local building to save it from potentially being turned into a holiday home.
Pairc Trust in Lewis has completed a deal to bring the Kershader resource centre into community ownership alongside other local facilities.
The trust took over the estate in December 2015 after a 13-year campaign and initially looked into buying the centre the following year.
Priorities then changed and the trust concentrated on developing affordable housing units.
But in 2019 it renewed its interest in the centre – which houses a playgroup, gym and space for other community groups.
INVERCLYDE Council has secured almost £1.2m to transform one of the oldest buildings in Port Glasgow into a new community hub. The local authority has won funding from the Scottish Government s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) for the town’s historic King George VI (KGVI) building, which dates back to the 1700s. The council has already invested £1m to date making the B-listed property wind and watertight to preserve it for future generations. The new cash will be used to complete the regeneration of the King Street building, including meeting rooms, an office space and café. It will also become the new home for Clune Park Resource Centre.
