DEFIANCE COUNTY, Ohio A man is dead and a woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Defiance County on Thursday night.
The Defiance post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that happened around 10:30 p.m. on State Route 18 just west of US 127 in the village of Sherwood.
According to the patrol, Jorge Casares, 31, of Mark Center, was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra westbound on State Route 18.
Amy Puckett, 42, of Fostoria, was driving a 2010 Chrysler Sebring eastbound on State Route 18. Casares crossed the center line and struck Puckett head-on, troopers said.

Since West Virginia was not part of the program, it did not need to hold vaccines in reserve. It has heavily relied on its National Guard to ferry vaccines around the state. Governor DeWine said Thursday that some hospitals have struggled with getting shots into arms. In surprising numbers, Ohio medical workers have been reluctant to take the vaccine. Initially as few as 40 percent of nursing home staff took the vaccine. Those numbers have climbed during second visits to facilities. Meanwhile, West Virginia has nearly finished vaccinations for nursing homes, medical workers, firefighters and police. Soldiers distribute the vaccines in military convoys running out of that state s headquarters.

State Patrol
Tuesday, 10:55 a.m., at Ohio 18 and Farmer-Mark Road in Defiance County s Mark Township, a sheriff s cruiser driven by Cliffton Vandemark, 62, Defiance, blew a tire and went left of center. He then backed up the vehicle to avoid an oncoming vehicle and struck a stop sign. Damage was light to the vehicle.
Wednesday, 10:36 p.m., on Harris Road in Defiance County s Highland Township, a vehicle driven by Joel Johnson, 20, Payne, left the roadway and struck a tree. He was taken by Highland Township EMS to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Johnson was cited for failure to control. Damage was heavy to the vehicle.
