Golf: Lydia Ko solid, but loses touch with leaders at ANA Inspiration

A consistent third round at the ANA Inspiration hasn t been enough to see Lydia Ko keep pace with the leaders, as she sits in a tie for seventh with one round left to play.
Ko carded a one-under-par 71 in her penultimate round today, with two birdies and a bogey breaking up her 15 pars.
Heading into the day four shots behind leader Patty Tavatanakit, Ko would have wanted to produce something similar to her second-round 69 to move further into contention.
But while Ko performed consistently throughout her round, she ended the day eight shots behind Tavatanakit, who hit a five-under-par 67 to hold a five-shot lead over nearest rivals Ally Ewing and defending champion Mirim Lee.

Saturday’s lowest round belonged to Ally Ewing, who opened with three straight birdies and added in three more on the back nine for a 6-under 66. That career-low round on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course jumped the Mississippi native from a tie for 20th into a tie for second with defending champion Mirim Lee heading into Sunday’s final round of the ANA Inspiration.
“It was just kind of just a great day. I hit a lot of fairways, greens, which is crucial in a major, especially out here,” said Ewing, whose best ANA finish is a tie for sixth in 2019. “Even if I look back on my day, I missed several putts inside 10 feet. But, I mean, a 66 on Moving Day, certainly all you can ask for to put yourself in a good position for tomorrow.”
Leona Maguire had a rough day at the office, giving up an early eagle advantage with five late bogeys to drop out of contention at the ANA Inspiration.
